Independent Film Distribution

As part of a Management Consulting class on campus at BYU, I was assigned to a team that worked on a project for an independent film company. This company recently produced a high school comedy and is innovating a new approach to marketing their film before DVD release. The approach involves high schools across the country hosting showings of the films as a fundraiser. The participating schools keep a portion of the ticket proceeds with the remainder being remitted to the film distribution company as a licensing fee.

Part of our team's deliverable was to develop a program that helps to value their film before they take it to investors for a nationwide DVD release. I created the program using VBA to track statistics and provide information to the user on the potential for DVD sales. The program makes use of user forms to input data for each showing and then uses various variables and user-selected inputs to perform analytics. The program makes use of check boxes which allow the users to select which variables are relevant to their particular needs. When everything is said and done, the program then gives the user the opportunity to print out the data for future reference.

This program is meant to expedite decision-making and is foreseen to save this particular film distributor numerous hours of work. Who knows, you may be the beneficiary of this company the next time you go to the movies.
